the editor stopped being a human-only workspace.
Context
The VS Code 1.138 release notes give a release date of September 16, 2026. Running agent sessions in local Dev Containers is set by a setting and is rolling out gradually, so it might not be enabled by default yet. Creating pull requests from agent sessions is available in the Agents window, with titles, descriptions and draft status reviewed in one form, and the Agent Merge option is experimental and only available when its setting is enabled. Automations are enabled by default and can be exported and imported to share. The release also lists an expanded Codex harness and session cleanup in preview.
Lets agents open pull requests needs the qualifiers that the form is reviewed by the user and the merge option is experimental behind a setting, and dev container sessions are a gradual rollout. The agent releases framing and the editor stopped being a human-only workspace are the author's.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
