Unpopular opinion

Yethikrishna ROriginal on Threads

unpopular opinion: open source ai coding tools will eat the proprietary ones within 18 months. The opencode github commits graph is the proof.

Context

The prediction is the author's own and cannot be checked. Some of what it rests on can. OpenCode is an open source coding agent, MIT licensed, and its site says it works with 75+ model providers.

OpenCode's Zen docs list Muse Spark 1.3 and a Muse Spark 1.3 Contributor Free tier with free pricing. The docs say some free models are available for a limited time while the team collects feedback.

How it compares

The note points to the OpenCode commits graph as proof. I did not inspect that graph, so it is not confirmed here. The repository page shows contributor counts, for example thdxr and adamdotdevin as top contributors.
