the workflow file just became a markdown doc. github agentic workflows, generally available september 15, compile natural-language markdown into locked yml files that run coding agents in actions, with permissions and safe outputs declared up front.
ci is readable by humans again.
Context
GitHub Docs says GitHub Agentic Workflows are in public preview and subject to change, are defined in markdown and run as GitHub Actions workflows, with YAML frontmatter for triggers, permissions and allowed write operations and a markdown body, and agents run in firewalled containers with read-only tokens by default, with writes limited to declared safe outputs checked by threat detection. GitHub changelog entries found are 13 February 2026 (technical preview) and 11 June 2026 (public preview).
Markdown with frontmatter, permissions and safe outputs are first-party. Generally available on 15 September was not found: the docs page fetched on 4 October still carries a public preview banner, and no GA changelog entry was seen, which is unresolved and not refuted. The compile to locked yml detail was seen only in a snippet of the compilation reference. CI is readable by humans again is the author's take.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
