the sdk pipeline just changed hands. anthropic acquired stainless, the platform that builds official developer libraries for openai, google and cloudflare, for over $300 million.
the api front door now has one owner.
Context
Anthropic's announcement says it is acquiring Stainless, which generated every official Anthropic SDK. Stainless's own post of 18 May 2026 says it is joining Anthropic and winding down all hosted Stainless products, including its SDK generator, with customers owning the SDKs they generated. TechCrunch (18 May 2026) says Anthropic did not disclose terms and that The Information had reported talks to acquire Stainless for more than 300 million dollars, and describes OpenAI, Google and Cloudflare as users.
The acquisition is first-party from both sides and is dated 18 May 2026, four months before the note, so just changed hands has no September event behind it in what was read. Over 300 million dollars is a reported talks figure and not a disclosed price. What changed hands is the team joining Anthropic while the hosted products wind down, which differs from continuity of the SDK pipeline for other customers. Taking a supplier from competitors is TechCrunch's reading.
