the pull request approval just became a suggestion. copilot code review can now approve pull requests, out september 10, with admins deciding whether the sign-off counts, and a september 18 update auto-resolving its own review findings.
the reviewer and the approver are converging into one agent.
Context
GitHub's changelog of 1 September 2026 says Copilot code review can tell you when a pull request is ready to approve and admins can authorize it to sign off. The feature is off by default, configurable at enterprise, organization and repository level, and available in public preview for Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise. An approval assessment alone does not count toward merge requirements, and when enabled Copilot's approval counts toward required approvals and is dismissed on new commits like a human's. The changelog of 11 September says Copilot resolves its own comments once you address them, and the 18 September changelog describes an improved review experience, now generally available.
The dated first-party post is 1 September, so out September 10 is not supported as written. Admin control is supported, with the public preview label and off-by-default setting that the note omits. The 11 September post is the first auto-resolution update and the 18 September one improves it. The 18 September general availability covers the review experience and does not establish approval general availability. That the reviewer and approver are converging is the author's opinion; the first-party text keeps admins in control.
