the open cloud ide just gave agents a memory. eclipse theia 1.75, out september 10, adds agent plugins, agent memory and mcp apps with interactive ui in chat.
the editor stopped being a file viewer.
Context
EclipseSource's release post of September 10, 2026 covers Eclipse Theia 1.75 with 51 merged pull requests. Agent Plugins bundle skills and MCP servers into one unit endorsed by an organization, in an open vendor-neutral format, and installation verifies the endorsed content hash. Memory is a built-in prompt capability backed by a wiki-style workspace knowledge base under .agents/memory/. MCP Apps implements the host side, rendering a server's app in a sandboxed iframe inside AI chat.
In the Theia IDE, Memory is integrated into the Coder agent as an opt-in and is off by default, so agents have a memory holds only as a field-test opt-in. The post says MCP Apps has so far been tried with the TMLL trace server, so tested use is limited. The post is by the project's main commercial maintainer. The September 10 date is the blog's, while a changelog snippet lists 1.75.0 on August 27, and the tag and announcement dates were not reconciled. The cloud in open cloud ide was not examined, and the editor stopped being a file viewer is the author's take.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
