the mac terminal just stopped being an ai bystander. iterm2's native claude code integration, out september 12, brings the agent into the terminal instead of a browser tab.
the context switch died.
Context
iTerm2's documentation says its Claude Code integration connects the Claude Code CLI with iTerm2. Each Claude session's state, working, waiting or idle, shows in the Session Status tool, and a ready-made Workgroup combines the Claude conversation, a diff viewer and a code-review session. It is optional and reversible through an uninstall menu item. It requires the claude CLI and iTerm2's Python API, and it adds hooks to the Claude settings file that report status to iTerm2. A news snippet says iTerm2 version 3.7 was released September 8, 2026.
Native means a bundled integration with hooks and not Claude Code running inside iTerm2 without its CLI, and no premise is adopted that Claude was previously browser-only. The note's September 12 is not matched by anything read, and the September 8 date is from a snippet only. The docs page is undated, and which build first shipped the integration was not verified. A snippet shows a later 3.7.3 build from September 22. The context switch died is the author's take.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
