the game engine just gave its dev loop to an agent. unity's official codex plugin, out september 21, ships 31 engine-specific skills and terminal workflows so openai's coding agent builds inside unity instead of around it.
engine lock-in now includes the ai.
Context
Unity's blog post dated September 16, 2026 introduces the official Unity plugin for Codex. It says it starts with 31 skills written by the Unity teams that own each feature, with more to come, two commands to set up from the terminal or one click from the OpenAI plugin directory, a unity-cli skill that installs editors, creates and opens projects and manages packages, and compatibility with Unity 6 and later.
The note says out September 21, and the post and the Unity forum listing are dated September 16, 2026. No preview or beta label appeared in the text read. Builds inside Unity instead of around it is the author's phrasing. The post notes that community-built plugins also exist.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
