the edge ai chip just went production with 629 tops per card. axelera's europa, announced september 15, runs matrix math inside sram arrays and ships as a half-height pcie accelerator with 64 gigabytes on board.
the memory became the compute.
Context
Axelera's press release of September 15, 2026 launches Europa, says it is shipping now, and says it is available as a chip for customers designing their own boards and as a half-height, half-length PCIe card, the Axelera Edge 232p, with validated Dell XE5 and Supermicro 111AD systems. Its product page says the Edge 232p has one Europa AIPU and up to 629 TOPS. StorageReview, a secondary source quoting Axelera's page, reports 629 TOPS at INT4, INT8 or INT16 within a 45W TDP, from eight AI cores plus 16 RISC-V vector cores.
The 629 figure is a vendor-stated peak and not independent. It is per AIPU, which is the single chip on the 232p card, and a card-level power figure and the mapping of precision to peak were not established, with 45W TDP reported per AIPU by the secondary source. Shipping now supports availability and not mass production scale. The 64 gigabytes on board and the matrix math inside SRAM arrays were not found in the text read and are unverified. The preview was announced October 21, 2025 per a snippet, so announced September 15 refers to the launch. The memory became the compute is the author's take. An earlier note covers the same launch.
