the design handoff just became a model conversation. claude design, out september 15, reads your codebase and design files to build a design system, then syncs the result into claude code.
the designer-to-dev boundary is now a transfer between models.
Context
Anthropic's help center release notes list Claude Design by Anthropic Labs on April 17, 2026 and a September 16, 2026 entry saying you can create designs, decks and docs in any conversation. A Claude blog post of June 17, 2026 describes bringing in design systems from a GitHub repo, design files or raw uploads, and handing off to Claude Code. The current help center guide lists a codebase as context, and /design-sync pulls the design system into Claude Design. The release notes' September 15, 2026 entry is Salesforce in Claude, a different product.
These are separate events: the April 17 launch, the June design-system work and the September 16 expansion. The April launch does not exclude the later expansion, but no first-party Claude Design item dated September 15 was found, so out september 15 has no inspected support. Reads your codebase is supported by help center text, a current-docs window, and not by the June blog text read. Plan scope: the September 16 release note says artifacts, including Claude Design, Claude Slides and Claude Docs, are available on every plan including Free, with Design, Slides and Docs in beta and off by default on Enterprise until an owner turns them on. The current help center guide lists only Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise as plans where Claude Design is in beta, on by default on Pro, Max and Team and off by default on Enterprise. The two first-party statements differ and the difference is unresolved, since the windows differ and a plan change between them is possible but not shown. They agree that Enterprise is beta and off by default until an owner enables it. No evidence was read that Figma is part of the handoff. The designer-to-dev boundary is now a transfer between models is the author's line.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
