the data pipeline vendor just renamed itself a context layer. fivetran's context layer, out september 16, applies the semantic layer discipline to agents instead of dashboards.
the warehouse became the agent's memory.
Context
Fivetran's blog post of September 16, 2026 announces Fivetran Context Layer, now in Limited Public Preview, a managed service that jumpstarts the development of a governed context layer built and maintained in the customer's own data warehouse or Fivetran Managed Data Lake Service. The post compares it to semantic layers and says context engineering is the same discipline pointed at a new consumer: agents. It cites that just 22 percent of organizations have successfully scaled AI across multiple business units.
This is a new product in limited public preview and not a company rename, as Fivetran keeps its name and pipeline business in the text read, and the headline's renamed itself is a metaphor. The 22 percent figure is vendor-cited and its source was not inspected. A docs snippet lists an Agent Context MCP that exposes the context layer to agents, seen as a snippet only. The warehouse became the agent's memory is the author's take.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
