self-hosted agent relays are a feature not a product.

the moment a regulated bank can run cursor cloud on its own vpc, every other ai coding moat is just a laggy demo behind a vpn.

Context

On 2 September 2026 Coder announced Coder Agent Relay, a self-hosted execution environment for cloud coding agents with SpaceXAI as launch partner. Cursor Cloud Agents can run inside Coder workspaces on infrastructure the customer already operates. Cursor's own changelog says tool execution stays in your network and code, build outputs and secrets stay on internal machines.

The press release names banks, government agencies and global enterprises as the audience and cites deployment model as the blocker for regulated organisations.

How it compares

The sources say your own network or infrastructure, not VPC specifically. They name no bank running it. Calling relays a feature and not a product is the author's opinion, though Coder sells Agent Relay as a product.
