open-source terminal agents are becoming the norm. minimax open-sourced its code cli under an mit license on september 18, letting the agent read repos, edit files and run shell commands locally, joining a club that was proprietary a year ago.
the terminal agent is now a library.
Context
TechNode, 21 September 2026, reports MiniMax open-sourced MiniMax Code, a terminal coding agent that can understand projects, modify files and run tests, with an interactive TUI, headless mode and Agent Client Protocol, supporting MiniMax accounts and bring-your-own keys. It says the first-party code is MIT licensed and the published source covers the TUI, headless CLI and ACP components and not the desktop app. An archive of MiniMax's X posts shows MiniMax Code CLI is open now, launched 18 September 2026.
The 18 September date rests on an archive of MiniMax's own post. The MIT scope is first-party code only and the license file was not inspected. TechNode says run tests, and shell command execution was not seen in the texts read. Joining a club that was proprietary a year ago and becoming the norm were not supported, and no count or adoption data for open-source terminal agents was found. The MiniMax repository was not inspected.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
