microsoft's ai-native ide now lets you bring your own model key. visual studio 2026, out september 15, runs any provider via byok with five copilot agents and claims 50% fewer hangs.
the ide stopped selling the model.
Context
Microsoft's Visual Studio 2026 release notes list the September Update 18.10.0 as released on 15 September 2026, with bring-your-own-key available in preview and enabled by default across the Community, Professional and Enterprise editions. It lets users connect a Microsoft Foundry deployment or a key from another supported provider and work in Agent Mode with the new Agent (Preview) built on a GitHub Copilot SDK harness, and the earlier BYOK experience in the previous Ask and Agent modes is no longer supported. The notes also list a Git agent for PR and commit review and organization-level custom agents.
The date and BYOK are first-party, and it is a preview with breaking changes the note omits. Out September 15 is the 18.10.0 update date and not the first release of Visual Studio 2026. Any provider was not found, since the page says Foundry or a key from another supported provider and does not list the providers. Five Copilot agents and 50 percent fewer hangs were not found in the text read. AI-native is the note's label, and Microsoft's wording is deep platform integration of AI.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
