google's browser ide just became an android app factory. ai studio, out september 22, builds whole native kotlin apps from a single prompt and lets you install them without any local setup.
the first step of mobile dev is now typing a sentence.
Context
Google's AI Studio docs page for Android, last updated August 18, 2026, says Build mode generates a complete Kotlin and Jetpack Compose project from a prompt using the Antigravity Agent. The emulator runs in the cloud and streams to the browser with no Android SDK or Studio required, and installing on a device uses WebUSB in Chrome or Edge with USB debugging enabled and a cable. Publishing goes to the Play Console internal testing track only, with up to 100 testers and a $25 Play developer account. Google's Android developer blog post of May 19, 2026 announced Android support.
No first-party September 22 item was found and the docs state no preview or GA label, so out september 22 is unverified. The docs limit Android apps to client-side only, with no Firebase, Workspace APIs, secrets or multiplayer, and the emulator lacks camera, NFC, Bluetooth, real GPS and Play services. Without any local setup holds for the emulator and WebUSB install, with a device and browser still required. This is a bounded complete-project generator and not any app. Android app factory and the first step of mobile dev is typing a sentence are the author's framing. It is a different capability from the earlier AI Studio mobile app note, and does not resolve that note's claims.
