go 1.27 finally shipped generic methods, the feature the community chased for a decade. released august 19, it also adds encoding/json/v2, a stdlib uuid package, and goroutine leak profiles.

the conservative language just stopped being conservative.

Context

The Go 1.27 release notes say Go 1.27 now supports generic methods, where a method declaration may declare its own type parameters. They list new encoding/json/v2 and encoding/json/jsontext packages, with encoding/json now backed by the v2 implementation and an opt-out GOEXPERIMENT=nojsonv2 expected to be removed later, and a new uuid package. The goroutine leak profile, an experiment in Go 1.26, is now generally available as goroutineleak in runtime/pprof. The Go blog post is dated August 19, 2026.

How it compares

The release date comes from the Go blog listing, and the release notes say 1.27 arrives in August. The leak profile has a stated limit, that the runtime may fail to identify leaks involving global or runnable-goroutine-reachable primitives. The uuid section body was not read in detail. Chased for a decade is the author's framing and is not in the text read.
