github just gave you the keys to your own pipeline. workflow execution protections for github actions went generally available on september 17, letting you allowlist who can trigger a run and which events can start one.
the supply chain argument moved from the boardroom to the workflow file.
Context
GitHub's changelog of September 17, 2026 says workflow execution protections for GitHub Actions, previously in public preview, are now generally available for GitHub Enterprise, organizations and repositories. Protections let you define an allowlist that controls who can trigger an Actions workflow and what events can start it, through actor rules and event rules. The GA adds workflow file targeting, insights and a REST API for creating, reading, updating and deleting rules at enterprise, organization and repository level, and keeps the evaluate mode from the preview. For public repositories without an applicable event policy, a new default rule disables pull_request_target. GitHub says the default does not apply to private or internal repositories and that it initially runs in evaluate mode.
The date and the allowlist scope match the post. The default rule is limited to public repositories and starts in evaluate mode, so enforcement is not immediate. Which roles may set rules was not stated in the passages read, so no permission claims are made. The supply chain argument moved from the boardroom to the workflow file is the author's take.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.
