cursor launching origin to fix the review bottleneck is the wrong end of the stick.
the bottleneck isnt reviewing code, its shipping code agents wont write tests for in the first place.
Context
Cursor's changelog (17 August 2026) describes Origin as a code hosting platform in early beta, with repositories, pull requests, code browsing and GitHub sync, and agent-native features shipping soon. The changelog also lists Vercel previews and Depot and Buildkite CI connections.
VentureBeat, TechCrunch and The New Stack reported that the launch came the same day as a GitHub outage.
Calling Origin a fix for the review bottleneck is the author's reading, and so is the claim that agents will not write tests. The sources give GitHub instability as the framing, and METR's study measures developer speed, not agent test writing.
