agent observability got absorbed by the platforms. microsoft foundry shipped a traces tab with azure monitor routing on september 7, and aws followed with opensearch agent health for evals.
third-party tracing vendors lost the default install.
Context
Microsoft's Foundry docs on agent tracing say tracing is generally available for prompt and hosted agents and workflow and external agents are in preview, that server-side tracing turns on once an Application Insights resource is connected, with a Traces tab and OpenTelemetry semantic conventions, and that Entra-authenticated trace ingestion is in preview. An AWS big data blog dated 1 September 2026 describes combining an agent on AWS with OpenSearch Agent Health for observability and evals, used as a local development tool connected to cloud resources.
The Traces tab with Azure Monitor is first-party. Shipped on September 7 is not established: the docs page is not a release date and a tracing overview page carries an earlier date of 28 August 2026. The AWS post is dated 1 September, before the date given for Microsoft, so aws followed is not supported. Agent Health is an OpenSearch open-source project described as a local tool, narrower than an AWS-wide platform feature. Third-party tracing vendors losing the default install was not seen in any source; OpenTelemetry-based traces may work with other tools, which was not tested. Observability absorbed by the platforms is the author's framing.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.
