a coding coordinator that never writes code. cursor's projects feature, out september 10, plans the work and delegates to thousands of subagents while keeping context across months of changes.
the bottleneck moves to planning.
Context
Cursor's post of 10 September 2026 launches Projects, which it says maintains context over months of work, delegates tasks to thousands of subagents and performs recurring work without being prompted, with a coordinator that does not write code itself but directs other agents that do. It runs in the cloud by default with shared context files and subscriptions (a Slack channel, a schedule, following PRs), and is available in beta and rolling out to all users starting that day.
The date, coordinator design and thousands of subagents are first-party in Cursor's own words, and it is a beta rollout and not a research design. Thousands is a capability statement, and no concurrency figure or limit was in the text read. The 30 percent more merged PRs for new users and six times for heavy Projects users are Cursor's unmatched claims with no method, population or baseline, and PR counts do not measure quality. Plan limits and pricing were not stated.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
